Sporting Results 2016-2017

Bude Junior School enter over fifteen sporting events/festivals every year. The results so far this year are listed below. HUGE congratulations to our netball team who, not only won the Bude and District tournament,  won the North Cornwall tournament FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!! This means they will represent the whole of the area at the Cornwall Games on the 30th of June. We have incredible success with our gymnastics (thank you Mr. Whelan) every year. They were crowned 2017 North Devon Champions (North Devon because there isn’t an equivalent festival in Cornwall)!

Bude Area football champions 2016 – and now also 2017!

What a fantastic set of performances from our two football teams at Budehaven’s tournament after school today.

Our Year 6 team won the tournament for the second straight year unbeaten  – with great style and inspiring teamwork with a goal by Chloe in extra-time of the very exciting final.  Very well played also to Cal, Kallum, Alfie, Dylan, Kieran, Ryan, Megan and Captain Jago.

Our younger team also performed extremely well in the other half of the draw: Captain Billy, Matty, Dylan, Dylan, Brandon, Archie, Molly, Laddie, Callum and Corrick.

WOW!

Bude took four teams to the Bude and District Kwik Cricket Tournament. After a great afternoon’s play both our boys and girls A teams won their respective tournaments. Both teams were unbeaten. It is the first time we have won both competitions in the same year!

Both B teams did extremely well with both coming third. Congratulations to Kilkhampton who came second in both tournaments.

North Cornwall Games 18th May

Report by James and Archie

Bude Junior took forty children to the North Cornwall Games which were being held at Budehaven this year. We competed in all five sports that were offered and everyone gave it their all! We all arrived around 2pm under the lovely bright sun shine although there was a bit of a breeze! All of Bude Juniors Teams had great fun taking part in the fantastic North Cornwall Games with all the other brilliant schools!

A few of the Quad Athletics competitors with ‘Choughy’ the fabulous mascot!

Quad Kids Athletics

“We all thoroughly  enjoyed all the  activities participating in sprint, long jump, long distance and vortex throw. We all competed to the best of our ability. There was a boys squad and a girls squad but they moulded as one putting all the points together making one big total!

The Team was Skye, Holli, Courtney, Leah, Archie, Charlie, Will and James.

Overall we finished 4th out of the 10 competing schools!”

Tennis

Years 3 and 4 competed against 4 other schools. There was a 2 girls and boys in each team. Each child played 4 matches each and loved every minute of it, even if they did not win! They also played a doubles match just for fun. They partened up as a mixed team with one boy and one girl in each team and played other schools teams for the fun of the fabulous sport!

They came 4th! Here are some of the participating pupils thoughts on the matches:

“I liked the singles tennis matches because of the pressure of competetiveness and I had lots of fun playing the matches!” Luke

“I liked it when we played doubles matches because me and my partner Luke worked well together; it was great fun and very joyful!” Ev

Hockey

The hockey team was a team of 9 with 6 on the field at a time they played exceptionally well, thrashing some teams and taking losses in their stride. Their behaviour was fantastic and they came an amazing 3rd place!

Here is a quote from Chloe, one of the players:

“The hockey tournement was an incredible event and we all thank the Budehaven staff. Bude came 3rd which was fantastic. I can’t wait to do it again next year!”

Many thanks to Mrs Mettam for her dedication in coaching us.

Basketball

The basketball team competed against 9 teams and they won one, drew some and lost some but overall they had lots of fun! Here is a quote from Eddy part of the basketball team:

“I thoroughly enjoyed our day and we tried and gave it our all however we did not win all our games but we acheived a well earned 7th place with lots of fun!” Eddy

Golf

The golf team consisted of 5 girls and 5 boys making a team of 10 they showed  excellent team spirit and great determination to improve throughout the tournament! Overall the team came fourth scoring over one thousand points!

They participated in 8 quick-fire golfing activities that tested their putting, chipping and driving skills.

Look out Jason Day!
