Year 6 Topics and Curriculum

Welcome To Year Six

We are all looking forward to an exciting year!

In Y6, the children will be expected to work hard and play hard and they will have many opportunities to develop and extend their academic, sporting, creative and social skills. They will be expected to take increasing responsibility for their own learning and will be able to complete more independent tasks to apply the skills and techniques they have learnt throughout the year.

We have a lot of trips and activities already lined up for the year which will extend our learning outside of the classroom. We will be taking advantage of our amazing location as much as possible. Please check the school website calendar for dates.

Our topic this term takes us off to the 1940s to explore the Home Front – World War 2.  We will be doing many cross-curricular links with literacy, art, drama and music. In maths we will be following the abacus scheme which, this term, builds on previous knowledge and understanding.

The children will have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays although with the likelihood of bad weather a constant problem, the children should have their kit in school all week in case the day needs to be changed.

Reading-All children should read every night and have their reading record signed by an adult. This ties in with the reading alien scheme.

Your child will also have a home school diary. These books are for messages from school for you or for you to write comments or messages to us: please check and sign it every week to ensure you are kept up to date with any changes and what is planned.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at school (Tuesday after school is the staff meeting day so we will not be available then).
